Maintenance & Engineering Manager
Lead the maintenance strategy for Denmark’s most unique defense-tech project, ensuring the reliability of safety-critical rocket propellant production.
About FPRT
FirePoint Rocket Technology is building one of the most unique and strategically important industrial projects in Denmark - a new production facility for solid rocket propellant and advanced defense-tech components. Our ambition is significant: we are scaling from the early operational phase to 350+ employees within the next 18 months. Joining us now means becoming part of the core team shaping a new high-tech, safety-critical production environment from the ground up.
Position Purpose – The Role
Role Purpose The Maintenance & Engineering Manager is responsible for the operational integrity, availability, and safety of all production assets and facility infrastructure at FPRT. This role transitions maintenance from a reactive function to a proactive, reliability-centered strategy. You will lead the technical team responsible for ensuring that complex processing equipment (handling energetic materials) operates at peak efficiency while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.
While the Manufacturing Automation Engineer defines the equipment logic and design, the Maintenance & Engineering Manager owns the lifecycle management, serviceability, and physical uptime of that equipment once commissioned.
Reports to: Chief Production Officer (CPO)

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy & Asset Management
Develop and implement a preventive and predictive maintenance strategy for all production equipment, with particular focus on long-cycle and batch-based processes (mixers, thermal curing ovens, polymerization and climate-controlled systems), ensuring thermal stability, high uptime during multi-day cycles, and prevention of in-process failures.
Minimize downtime by transitioning from reactive repairs to condition-based monitoring and planned interventions.
Implement and manage a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to track work orders, asset history, and costs.
Collaborate with the Manufacturing Automation Engineer to ensure predictive maintenance concepts and condition monitoring are built into equipment.
Facility & Infrastructure Engineering
Oversee the management of critical plant infrastructure, including power supply, ventilation/HVAC, and safety zones.
Ensure facility compliance with Danish building codes and environmental regulations.
Coordinate with facility and construction teams to ensure infrastructure readiness for new equipment installations.
EHS & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with EHS standards regarding flammable/energetic materials.
Enforce strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and "Permit to Work" systems for hazardous areas.
Maintain equipment documentation and maintenance logs to ensure audit readiness for AQAP and ISO requirements.
Spare Parts & Technical Inventory
Define critical spare parts strategies to balance inventory costs with risk mitigation.
Collaborate with the Warehouse team to ensure technical spares are tracked and stored correctly.
Manage relationships with equipment OEMs to ensure rapid support and parts availability.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and schedule the team of maintenance technicians and facility engineers.
Ensure the team is trained in specific safety protocols (ATEX, energetic materials) and technical troubleshooting.
Build a culture of "ownership" where technicians act as guardians of equipment reliability.
CapEx Projects & Commissioning Support
Support the installation and commissioning of new production lines in coordination with Process Engineering and Automation teams.
Provide input on equipment "serviceability and accessibility" during the design phase to prevent future maintenance bottlenecks.
What We Are Looking For
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in maintenance management within heavy industry, chemical processing, pharma, defense, or similar manufacturing environments.
Proven experience managing technical teams and coordinating external contractors and facility service providers.
Experience working in regulated environments (ATEX, SEVESO, or similar high-safety contexts) is a strong advantage
Skills
Technical: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment) and electrical systems. Familiarity with industrial automation (PLC, SCADA).
Systems: Experience implementing or optimizing CMMS systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) and using OEE/Root Cause Analysis (FMEA) techniques.
Safety: Uncompromising approach to safety standards and risk management in energetic/hazardous environments.
Leadership: Hands-on leadership style; willing to be present on the shop floor to support the team during critical issues.
Mindset: Structured, disciplined, and solution-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and process reliability.
What We Offer
Be a part of one of Denmark's most unique industrial and defense-tech projects responsibility for the operational integrity, availability, and safety of all production assets and facility infrastructure.
A professional, international environment with a clear mission and purpose
Above-market compensation
Brand-new factory & equipment
