Process Chemist
Does Chemical engineering, stability and safety motivate you?
Fire Point Rocket Technology
We specialize in the design and manufacturing of rocket engine components, with qualification and performance testing conducted at our dedicated off‑site facilities.
Our work supports programs of vital importance to Denmark’s national defense.
Role Purpose
The Process Chemist supports the Senior Chemical Engineer in ensuring the chemical stability, safety, and quality of solid propellant production.
This role focuses on in-process chemical control, ensuring that all chemical operations – from material preparation and mixing to polymerization – are executed according to recipe specifications and safety requirements.
The Process Chemist acts as the “operational eye” of the chemical process, performing daily analyses, monitoring critical parameters, and documenting results to ensure each batch conforms to defined standards before, during, and after processing.
Reports to: Senior Chemical Engineer
Key Responsibilities
1. Process Monitoring & Control
Perform in-process chemical monitoring during mixing, vacuuming, and polymerization stages.
Check and verify parameters such as viscosity, temperature, vacuum level, reaction stability, and material homogeneity.
Support process adjustments in coordination with Senior Chemical Engineer and Process Engineers.
Ensure adherence to recipe-specific instructions and operational limits defined in SOPs.
2. Sampling & Analytical Testing
Collect samples from raw materials, in-process mixtures, and polymerized batches following approved sampling plans.
Conduct routine laboratory tests (e.g., particle-size analysis, moisture content, density, pH, visual checks) to monitor consistency.
Maintain sample identification, labeling, and traceability according to internal quality procedures.
3. Documentation & Data Integrity
Record all measurements, batch test results, and observations in laboratory logs or LIMS/ERP systems.
Ensure traceability of all chemical batches and results, including deviations and corrective actions.
Support the preparation of batch records and process control documentation for review by Senior Chemical Engineer.
4. Deviation & Issue Escalation
Immediately report any deviations, abnormalities, or safety concerns to the Senior Chemical Engineer or Shift Manager.
Participate in preliminary root-cause analyses (RCA) for process-related quality issues.
Propose preventive measures to avoid chemical instability or off-spec batches.
5. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with Process Engineers, Shift Managers, and Quality Control Lab to ensure alignment between process chemistry and production operations.
Provide rapid feedback on chemical results that affect production continuity.
Support training of operators and supervisors on handling and process compliance (chemical aspects).
6. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
Ensure all chemical handling, storage, and disposal activities meet HSE and MSDS requirements.
Follow PPE standards and maintain safe working conditions in the lab and near production zones.
Participate in periodic HSE audits and chemical safety briefings.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
100% completion of in-process chemical testing and documentation.
≤ target deviation rate per batch (defined by Senior Chemical Engineer).
No missed or unreported process deviations.
Full compliance with HSE standards and zero recordable incidents.
Timely and accurate delivery of chemical results (≤ defined turnaround time).
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science.
2–5 years of laboratory or process experience in chemical, polymer, propellant, or related manufacturing industries.
Hands-on experience with analytical instruments (moisture analyzers, viscometers, balances, temperature/vacuum sensors).
Familiarity with chemical safety standards and documentation systems (SOPs, LIMS, or ERP).
Strong attention to detail, responsibility, and data accuracy.
English proficiency (written and spoken). Danish or Ukrainian is an advantage.
