Senior Process Engineer / Technology Manager
Can you combine production processes with technical engineering, safety and repeatebility?
Fire Point Rocket Technology
We specialize in the design and manufacturing of rocket engine components, with qualification and performance testing conducted at our dedicated off‑site facilities.
Our work supports programs of vital importance to Denmark’s national defense.
Your Role
The Senior Process Engineer ensures the technical stability, safety, and repeatability of the rocket propellant manufacturing process – from material preparation and mixing to polymerization, demolding, and assembly.
They are the technology owner for all physical process parameters, bridging the gap between laboratory chemistry and real industrial production.
The role’s mission is to make sure that each batch runs safely, consistently, and efficiently – with minimal deviations, optimal yield, and full process control.
Key collaboration with: Chief Chemical Engineer, Maintenance & Engineering Lead, Quality Control Manager, and HSE Lead.
Reports to: Chief Production Officer (CPO)
Core Responsibilities
Translate chemical recipes into operational parameters – define, document, and control temperature, vacuum, mixing speed, and polymerization time.
Own process stability: ensure each production run is performed within validated parameters; monitor variation and take corrective actions.
Develop and maintain SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and Process Control Standards for all process stages.
Prepare and verify process readiness before every production batch (equipment calibration, temperature control, vacuum setup, tooling alignment).
Conduct troubleshooting and root-cause investigations for any deviations, scrap, or yield loss (in collaboration with Maintenance and QC).
Coordinate closely with the Chief Chemist to ensure lab recipes can be safely scaled to production and that physical process conditions match chemical requirements.
Support commissioning and validation of new or modified equipment (mixers, polymerization ovens, demolding systems).
Lead continuous process improvement (CIP) initiatives — reduce variability, improve cycle time, and optimize energy or material consumption.
Work on-site during critical phases (mixing, polymerization, demolding) to ensure parameters and safety limits are respected.
Collaborate with Automation & Data specialists for MES/PLC integration, alarms, and real-time monitoring of critical process variables.
Ensure full HSE compliance — guarantee all operations meet safety standards for handling reactive or explosive materials.
Functional Scope
Process Control: Establish and maintain critical process parameters for each production area.
Process Stability & Readiness: Verify and approve readiness before each batch; coordinate equipment settings and operator instructions.
Root-Cause Analysis: Lead investigations of process deviations, identify systemic issues, and define corrective actions.
Equipment & Automation: Support calibration, validation, and data integration (MES/PLC).
Documentation & Standards: Maintain up-to-date SOPs, control charts, and parameter logs.
Continuous Improvement: Drive Lean/Kaizen activities focusing on efficiency, safety, and product consistency.
Decision-Making Authority
Adjust process parameters within defined safety and quality limits.
Stop or pause production in case of process deviations or safety risks.
Approve and update process documentation (SOPs, work instructions).
Recommend CAPEX/OPEX improvements related to process equipment and control systems.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Process yield (successful batches / total batches).
Scrap and rework rate.
Process stability (parameter variation across shifts).
Equipment uptime and process readiness rate.
Number of deviations with verified root cause and implemented corrective actions.
Safety incidents / near misses related to process deviations.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: MSc in Process, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience: 5+ years in process engineering or manufacturing — preferably in chemical, polymer, or defense-grade propellant production.
Strong background in temperature-, pressure-, and vacuum-controlled processes.
Proven experience creating and validating SOPs and process documentation.
Familiarity with MES / PLC / SCADA systems and basic process automation.
Understanding of Lean / Six Sigma / Kaizen methods for process improvement.
Hands-on approach and readiness to work close to production operations.
Professional Skills
Solid understanding of thermal, mechanical, and chemical process interactions.
Strong analytical skills and structured problem solving (5 Whys, FMEA, Pareto).
Skilled in process data interpretation and control charting.
Ability to identify and mitigate process risks early.
Strong technical documentation and procedural writing skills.
Soft Skills
Safety-first mindset and high attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Calm under pressure, solution-oriented, and decisive.
Capable of coaching operators and supervisors on process standards.
Adaptability to a fast-evolving, high-precision production environment.
